PERFECT REGRET (Bad Rep #2) by A Meredith Walters Blog Tour and Giveaway

SYNOPSIS:

Riley Walker makes all the right decisions and knows exactly where her life is headed.

Riley Walker does not make mistakes.

Riley Walker certainly doesn’t make spontaneous decisions.

But then Riley Walker gets dumped.

Spectacularly, gut-wrenching, stomp all over her heart dumped. And she is feeling more than a little angry. And a whole lot bitter. And suddenly the girl who has always done everything right feels like doing something completely wrong.

Garrett Bellows, lead guitarist for the local band, Generation Rejects, is going through life without a plan. Trying not to think past the next gig or the next party, he has worked hard to not become too attached to anyone or anything. So he is shocked to find himself drawn to the snarky girl with a chip on her shoulder. She pisses him off and puts him down. He knows she’s nothing more than a self-entitled college brat who thinks she’s better than the townie boy without a future.

Alcohol and a hefty dose of lust leads to a night both Riley and Garrett immediately regret. Her embarrassment, his pride and the weight of rumors and misconceptions convince Riley and Garrett that their one-time indiscretion will never be repeated. Particularly when their harshest critics are each other.

But how do you reconcile a head that wants to let go with a heart that keeps holding on?

And what happens when your biggest regret begins to seem almost perfect?

Excerpt

“You are so fucking gorgeous, Riley.” He traced the line of my collarbone, his finger dipping into the crevice between my breasts, unleashing a wave of chills over my skin.
“I’m scared as hell you’ll wake up tomorrow and realize you can do a lot better than me.  That you and me, we’re too different and this can never work.” Garrett bent low and replaced his finger in the valley between my breasts with his mouth, suckling the skin and eliciting a throaty moan from my throat.
“Please don’t wake up thinking that.  Because you and me could be something wonderful.  I swear to God I’ll spend the rest of my life proving it to you,” he said into my skin as he kissed a line up chest and up the side of my neck until he sucked my earlobe between his teeth, making me gasp.
“You don’t need to prove anything to me, Garrett,” I rasped, finding it hard to talk.  Hard to breathe.  Hard to think.

My Review: 4 out of 5 Stars

I swear, A Meredith Walters can write a really good book. I've been a fan of her work since I read Find You in the Dark. It easily became one of my all-time favorite books. She can write such a raw emotional story, so captivating, with characters that tug on your heartstrings. Of course that series was a bit more dark and gritty given the heavy topic it dealt with. But even so, anything she writes, I'd enjoy.

This book was filled with alot of emotions, heartache, pain, lessons about love, loss. After dealing with a bad breakup, Riley resorts to a night she wants to forget. With the lead guitarist of Jordan's band, Generation Rejects (interesting band name), Garrett. He uses women and drugs as an escape from his own pain he's suffered in his life. So when they realize the next morning what they've done, things start to get complicated. Their relationship goes back and forth, more pain and heartache, more "do I want this? Is it really for me? Can I trust this?" blah blah blah. It gets tiresome, but eventually, things take a turn for the better.

I got really flustered with Riley at times. Okay, she got dumped, I get it. It sucks. It hurts. It's wounding. But, it happens. It's life. We all go through it once in our lives. But she was too whiny at times, and I wanted to slap her. She was a bit on the mean side, hurting Garrett over and over. Even though he's had his fair share of issues and mistakes, he loved her, but deserved better. His heartbreak was my heartbreak. I felt horrible for him, wanted to comfort him and keep him safe. But thankfully, Riley saw the light and I didn't feel like strangling her by the end. The characters from Bad Rep were in this book, so those that adored Jordan and Maysie will get their fix.

Even though, I didn't love this story AS much as Maggie and Clay's story, it was still worth the read. Really, anything that Walters writes, I'll read. She just has a knack for sucking me into her stories and ride the roller-coaster with her characters. I love her writing style and the words that fill up the pages. I do recommend anything by her. She's on auto-buy, and I think others that love emotional books should give her a chance. Great job A!
