doesn't know how to lose.

Emma has no interest in wasting her summer with a superficial guy
like Landon. But very soon she realizes she is wrong about him.
The question is, can she trust him? Or will he let her down like
every other guy in her life? But most importantly, can Emma trust
herself enough to live the life she's always dreamed of?
Life has a way of sneaking in the most important lessons when you
aren't looking. And once the heart gets involved, that's when the
real learning begins.

My Review

5++++ Read

First of all, I owe Laura a huge THANK YOU for giving me an ARC of this wonderful little gem. I stumbled upon it, the cover actually, from an email of one of the blogs I follow. The cover intrigued me instantly and then the blurb sold me on it. I contacted Laura, asking for an ARC and she happily obliged. This was one of those books I started and couldn't put down. It was a Friday night I started and cancelled my plans so I could stay home and just read.

From the moment Landon entered the screen on my kindle, I knew I would love him. First of all, the book takes place in the summer. Both MC's are working at the pool as lifeguards. Landon's a football player and starting school in the fall. He's popular, well-liked, athletic, charming, smart, sexy...sexy...sexy. And every chapter with his POV, I was either smiling or swooning. Or drooling. Whatever. But later on in the story, we learn some secrets about our tortured hero. My heart went out to him. I hated his parents. I loved his friends...well, there were times I wanted to beat one of them in particular up, but eventually it changed. I was happy.

Our protagonist, Emma has to learn life lessons the hard way. Her home life isn't all it seems. Her mom's a waitress, barely making ends meet. Her sister has Down's Syndrome, so she keeps her personal life to herself. That is until she and Landon spend more time together. They both learn a lot about life and love, all the while trying to keep their scorching attraction from getting in the way. But honestly, from the moment they meet, it's totally there. I was rooting for these two to get together. But I also loved seeing their relationship grow and develop at a steady pace. The sexy times were just off the charts. My kindle was melting with all the hot steam. Hot damn! Laura sure can write an intense sex scene!

But this story was more than just sex and fighting attraction. It was also fighting against circumstances and for what you believe in. These two didn't have it easy. A huge twist towards the middle really had me gritting my teeth and wanting to scream. But the way both Landon and Emma handled it was really mature and understandable. Their journey to find and keep love was a heartbreaking and inspiring one.

I loved Evie. She was such a fireball. She was strong and funny and so adorable, especially with her boyfriend Garrett. Landon's interactions with Evie were so heartwarming, I swooned and awwwwed, so much. He truly became the rock Emma needed in her life. He stuck up for her when needed and he fought for her the whole way. His love was sincere and sweet.

I highly recommend this book to romance lovers. It's a story about love, life and fighting the obstacles we face to get where we wanna be. The writing was engaging and flowed effortlessly. I don't even remember if there were errors, but if they were, it didn't take away from the story one bit. Like I said, once I started...I couldn't stop. It's a story to experience with characters that will break and warm your heart all at once.

Great job, Laura! I will definitely be reading more of your work. And thanks again for sending me an ARC.

Blog Tour- #Scandal by Sarah Ockler

Synopsis

Lucy’s learned some important lessons from tabloid darling Jayla Heart’s all-too-public blunders: Avoid the spotlight, don’t feed the Internet trolls, and keep your secrets secret. The policy has served Lucy well all through high school, so when her best friend Ellie gets sick before prom and begs her to step in as Cole’s date, she accepts with a smile, silencing about ten different reservations. Like the one where she’d rather stay home shredding online zombies. And the one where she hates playing dress-up. And especially the one where she’s been secretly in love with Cole since the dawn of time.

When Cole surprises her at the after party with a kiss under the stars, it’s everything Lucy has ever dreamed of… and the biggest BFF deal-breaker ever. Despite Cole’s lingering sweetness, Lucy knows they’ll have to ’fess up to Ellie. But before they get the chance, Lucy’s own Facebook profile mysteriously explodes with compromising pics of her and Cole, along with tons of other students’ party indiscretions. Tagged. Liked. And furiously viral.

By Monday morning, Lucy’s been branded a slut, a backstabber, and a narc, mired in a tabloid-worthy scandal just weeks before graduation.

Lucy’s been battling undead masses online long enough to know there’s only one way to survive a disaster of this magnitude: Stand up and fight. Game plan? Uncover and expose the Facebook hacker, win back her best friend’s trust, and graduate with a clean slate.

There’s just one snag—Cole. Turns out Lucy’s not the only one who’s been harboring unrequited love…

MY REVIEW

I first want to start and say a big thank you to Jean @Jeanbooknerd and Sarah for allowing me to be a part of the blog tour. I was very happy to get an ARC of this book and it's my first Sarah Ockler book. And I loved it! I'll definitely be getting Twenty Boy Summer and her other books as well.

First of all, I love the premise. This is the type of stories I devour. I love teen romances and this book did not disappoint. When I first started it, I'll admit, I didn't know what was going on. But as I read further, the more I enjoyed the story and was immersed in Lucy and Cole's life. It opens up with them getting ready for prom. Lucy's best friend wasn't feeling well and wasn't able to make their senior prom. So she puts her (as in Lucy) in her place...to go with Cole. Cole is Ellie's boyfriend and Ellie is Lucy's best friend. The problem is, Lucy's always liked Cole. So taking Ellie's place is really hard on her, and she has to conceal her true feelings. But she does it for her best friend. What starts out as an innocent and fun night at the dance...turns into something much worse. And that's thanks to Facebook and some mean brats who took pictures during a party and wanted to lay out Lucy's life on the internet for all to see. Things get messy, friendships are tested and true feelings are revealed. It's a train wreck for all involved. And I love drama and angst, but this was just horrible.

The next day, there's a Facebook post of Lucy and Cole in an embrace, which she never took. And then there's other embarrassing moments involving other students at the after party. Someone is on the hunt for the next #scandal article, and they sure got it. Now, Lucy has to find out who the culprit is trying to frame her and also, find her cell phone when it goes missing. It's a bit of mystery-slash-Gossip Girl and it gets ugly. I felt so bad for Lucy and hated the bitches who wanted to ruin all the good things in her life. But in the end, we find out who was behind it all. Everything gets settled and the ending was great.

I read this book in less than 2 days. It was fast and easy reading. The writing style was fun and engaging and I enjoyed the characters. Especially Cole. Yeah, I liked him a lot. It brought me back to those teenage years, but when I was a teen, we didn't have cell phones and facebook apps. It just shows how easily your life can be destroyed by uploading private pics or having your phone stolen and your identity lost. It's a horrible concept if you think about it. All it takes is a push of a button and something private like a picture is on the net for all to see. But this was a fun and easy read and I loved it. Sure, there's some angst and drama. But there's also some romance that will melt your heart. I recommend to my friends who love a good mystery/romance story. It is YA so there's not a lot of steam but I like books without all the sex too. I'll be reading Ockler's other books very soon.

My Review: 4/5 stars!

First of all, I just want to thank Ena from Enticing Journey and Jane for allowing me to be a part of this blog tour. I've been a fan of Jane since I read and loved The Education of Sebastian and Dangerous to Know & Love. She's an amazing writer. Her stories are heartbreaking, her characters are endearing and relateable, but also flawed. And I was truly in love with this story as well.

Hallen is a male escort, trying to get out of debt. Being he's only 21 and just graduated from college his school funds are stacking up. We all know how it is to have to pay for college. It's not cheap. He's an artist who is very talented and ambitious. He left home at 18, after losing his father and being estranged from his mother. It's gotta be hard making it out on your own. No, it IS hard making it out on your own at only 18. I felt bad for him. So when he's given an offer that sounds too good to be true, he accepts. And then it becomes his life. His career. I'm not a big fan of male escorts and such. But hey, sometimes desperation calls to us and we don't think, we act.

Then we meet Laura. She's one of his clients. Sparks fly, yet it's a slow-burning romance that blossoms over time. She has trust issues and very little-or non existent self-esteem. I felt for her situation. I've been in her position, so I totally could relate to her. Verbal abuse is very hard to overcome. It's hard to get out of the mindset of not being good enough, smart enough, pretty enough when someone you loved always cut you down, making you feel worthless. You eventually believe it. Her situation broke my heart and made me feel all those insecurities that I once felt when I was with my ex. It's hard to get through it. But together, Laura and Hallen were a great match. They really had so much to work through, yet they were determined to fight for something real. Something that neither ever thought they could have. And it was great see. I enjoyed their story.

I'll admit, I was a little skeptical at first. About the age thing. But honestly, it wasn't a problem. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Jane is really good at making the questionable work really well. She's good at sucking you in with her writing and her characters. You can't help but root for them, no matter how hopeless the situation seems. She just has that gift. Though this book wasn't my favorite of hers, I still enjoyed it immensely and highly recommend it.

Another great novel, Jane! And thanks again for providing me with an arc. Can't wait for your next book!

Excerpt

EXCERPT 1

“So, what other services do you offer, Hallen?”

How many times had I been asked that question? How many times had I answered it?

She laid her hand on my knee, her gaze sharp, questioning, lustful—and ashamed.

The light was not kind to her, emphasizing hard lines around her mouth, the overly tight skin of her forehead.

She should have chosen a bar with softer lighting. Candlelight hides a multitude of sins. Except my sins are all on the inside.

When I’d arrived at the designated restaurant earlier in the evening, she’d been careful to conceal her age. Maybe she thought I’d care. I didn’t. I gave my name to the hostess and asked her to let Ms. Mandelsohn know that I had arrived.

It was always interesting meeting a new client—a challenge, too—getting to know her, putting her at ease, helping her to feel comfortable, working out what she wanted from a date. She needed to feel safe with me, like I’d take care of her in all senses of the words. And talking is underrated as a method of foreplay. Clients often said they felt like they’d known me for years. Well, they knew the part I showed them, which wasn’t the same thing at all. But it was enough to let me fuck them.

They didn’t always want sex—or they said they didn’t. Once they’d met me, they often changed their minds.

EXCERPT 2

She joined me at the window, a large glass of Cognac in each hand. I accepted one and clinked it against hers.

“Santé!”

“SkÃ¥l!”

She smiled and took a sip, her eyes thirsty and impatient.

“What are you thinking?” she asked, quietly.

“That it’s a long way down.”

She laughed, tension seeping around the edges of the sound. “I hope you’re not thinking of jumping to get away from me.”

I turned to look at her, deliberately running my eyes up and down her body. “No, I’m not thinking that.”

Her lips parted in a small gasp.

I took the glass out of her hand and placed it on the table with mine.

Belinda. Her name was Belinda.

“What do you like, Belinda?”

“Um, I…”

“You can tell me,” I said, as if we were sharing a secret. “Do you want me to touch you slowly?” I drifted my fingers down her arm, stroking her skin. “Or do you want me to take you hard?” I gripped her wrist in one hand and tipped her chin up with the other, so she was forced to look at me.

I saw her moisten her lips and swallow.

“Hard,” she whispered.

Yeah, that’s what I’d guessed. You learned to read people—women—in this job.

She licked her lips again and tottered forward, her balance becoming uneven with an alchemy of alcohol and lust.

“Do you want me to take you at the window, baby? Press your beautiful breasts against the cold glass while I fuck you. Anyone looking up would know what a bad, bad girl you are. Anyone could see.”

She choked on a laugh and I could tell she was considering it. My guess was she’d go for the bed. Older women usually did.

EXCERPT 3

Have you ever wondered what money smells like? I mean real money. Not just a lot of money, but vats of money, swimming pools of money, whole oceans of money. It smells of sweat and sex, wrapped in silk.

That’s the scent that filled my lungs walking into the Casino de Monte Carlo.

The building was bathed in bright yellow lights, turning the white stucco into a shimmering facade. A marble fountain seemed to pour molten gold into the piscina at its base.

And the women. My God, the women. Birds of Paradise in gowns of every color, shade, texture and tone. You noticed the dresses first—the faces above were all the same—rich, privileged, aware.

“By the way, Emma, what’s it for?”

“What?”

“The fundraiser. Which charity is it for?”

“Christ! I don’t know!” she said, distracted by a blonde woman in skyscraper Laboutins. “Whales or tuna or goldfish or something! Who cares?”

I kept my mouth shut.

At the door, we were greeted by a well dressed staff member who knew both our names, and handed us each a $50,000 casino chip.

Fifty-thousand dollars!

Emma smiled, watching with vulpine amusement as I tried to cover up my astonished reaction.

“Enjoy!” she said, stroking my ass. “If you’re a good boy, there’ll be more where that came from.”

It must have been obvious who and what I was. I wouldn’t say I was oblivious to the barely hidden contempt from those who saw us together, but I’d learned to ignore it. The burn was a little less.

EXCERPT 4

She opened the door and hesitated, her eyes alight with humor, lust and something darker.

“I want two orgasms,” she stated, matter of fact, “or I want my money back. And I have to tell you—I am not multi-orgasmic.”

She folded her arms.

“You sure about that?”

“Very.”

I leaned against the doorpost. “Guess I’m going home then.”

Her face fell, and I couldn’t help smiling.

“You are such a tease!” she snorted.

I closed the door behind me. “That’s the idea.”

“You have one hour,” she insisted.

“Are you timing me?” I joked.

“Um, no, it’s all I can afford,” she muttered, fiddling with her purse.

I immediately felt like shit, and she must have seen it because she shrugged apologetically.

“One hour,” I said. “Time me.”

At that point I didn’t really care whether she got her money back or not. I’d already earned half of $1600 for the evening so I had nothing to lose. And she’d issued a challenge.

I shrugged out of my jacket, draping it over the back of a chair. Slowly, I bent down to untie my shoes and pull off my socks. I caught her eye as I glanced up.

“Did you want me to leave my socks on?”

“Um, no!” Then she realized I was teasing her again. “Hallen!”

“Anything else I should know about your preferences? You know, apart from your sock fetish?”

Her laugh turned into a breathy sigh as I walked toward her.

“That’s a pretty dress, Audrey. I think it should come off—it would be a shame to spoil it.”

“Seriously, Eloise? A high school dance. Balloon arches and spiked punch?”

She laughed, although there was an edge to her voice.

“I would have thought it would make a nice change from older women, Hallen, and for once you can a knock a couple of years off your age.”

I frowned.

“Besides, the money is the same so what difference does it make?” Eloise said, brusquely. “Look, have you got any idea how brutal high school is for plain girls?”

Sometimes she made it sound like working as an escort was a mission, not … well, what it was.

“Melissa’s mother says she is very shy and a little overweight. She doesn’t want all her daughter’s memories of high school to be ghastly. And, frankly, there are very few reputable escort services offering anything to girls of her age. You’re only three years older and when you shave you’ll look younger. Look on it as an act of charity.”

“Oh, I’m sure Melissa would love to hear that,” I snarkedback.

“I told you to look her age, not act it,” Eloise replied, sharply. “Sweep her off her feet, but don’t sleep with her. Understand?”

“Yes, boss.

My Review:

First of all, I wanna thank Enticing Journey for letting me be a part of this tour. It was an honor to read and review this book. This was my first read by RE Hunter(and yes, it's her debut novel) and it didn't disappoint. I was excited to read Rose's book and loved it.

This book was so well written, I felt like I was there most of the time. Rose paints a vivid picture when it comes to bringing these characters and their story to life. I felt their emotions and their struggles as if they were my own. Now the thing is, I'm a New Yorker, so to see this novel taking place in my first home was a lot of fun. I just love New York and everything about it. Another cool thing is, my grandfather was a well known lawyer for New York City so that was another thing I had in common with this book. Because Embry is So I was already in love before I started the story...

Now, I'll say I enjoyed this crazy ride that Embry took me on. She was a wonderful character, full of flaws and yet she was strong. She had a rough past and was hiding from it. Who hasn't had a rough past? I think we've all been in her shoes once in our lives, maybe not the same situations but at least something that haunts us and keeps us from going after what we truly want. So we settle for whatever we think we deserve. Embry broke my heart and at times, she frustrated me. But she was real too. So I loved her and hoped things would work out.

Luke. Luke was sexy and amazing. And very damaged. He's got a secret and he's got his own set of issues, but I loved him. Especially with Embry. Their chemistry was epic and beautiful and hot hot hot! But he was also so protective and alpha. We all love our alphas. And he could cook. Oh a man who cooks is perfection.

I loved the secondary characters too. The whole cast played their roles so well. I was easily connected to each of them and felt for them and wanted everyone to have happy endings and greatness. And then the ending happened....yeah, not cool. I'm eagerly awaiting for book 2. So, for a debut novel, this was fantastic. Great job Rose! I gave it a 4/5 stars!
